It’s time to give the lawn an autumn feed. Hopefully this will help with the brownness of the lawn.
Wood chip in the fruit tree area
Now that the horse dung is down, we covered the area around the fruit trees with wood chip. It had been moved around, and was partially rotted, so not the best for weed suppression, but better than dung and soil. It’ll need another good covering with fresh wood chip for next year.
Trimming through the fence
With the Leylandii gone, the plants in next door’s garden have more incentive to push through the fence. Time for a trim…
Dog prep
In preparation for the arrival of Aubrey, we’ve fenced off a small area of the garden by the back door.
Deer food
The deer have been visiting again…
Hedge cut
We let the escalonia hedge grow a bit this year, and it seems to have recovered from the leaf yellowing earlier in the year. Maybe it was just frost damage. However, it was time to give it a trim, and a nice day to boot.
Whitebeam not so well after all?
The leaves on the whitebeam with the slow growing tip are turning before there is any sign of turning on the other trees. Maybe it’s not so happy after all. We contemplated replacing it, but have decided to give it another full season to see what happens. Either way, this tree will probably always be smaller than its neighbours.
How not to train a damson
While training one of the branches on the damson, I must have pulled too hard and the branch started to split at it’s base. I’ve bound it up – time will tell if the branch will survive. Unfortunately the branch is an important one – one of two that are nearly vertical and form the main trunk of the tree. Fingers crossed.
Whitebeam red berries
Nice berries on the older whitebeam in the front garden.
Planting Fuchsia ‘Riccartonii’
We are looking for some good shrubs for the garden, and Fuchsia ‘Riccartonii’ is one candidate. It’s a bit late in the year for planing them, but we’ll see how they do.
